Synopsis
First specified by the FBI National Academy as standard training issue; the 5.11 Tactical Pants have enjoyed considerable popularity over the past 30+ years. Known for its signature rear slash pockets and strap, the sturdy, seven-pocket pants are made of tough, 8.5-oz. 100% cotton canvas that becomes increasingly more comfortable over time. They stands up to the rigors of daily work, play and travel. Known for superior comfort, functionality and fit, the tactical pants feature a self-adjusting comfort waistband that helps you bend and stretch with ease. Front pockets are strong and roomy; inverted pleats on the cargo pockets remain flat until needed for a neat, professional appearance. A narrow thigh pocket accommodates a magazine, cell phone or utility knife. The extra deep rear pockets hold extended mags, a baton or a 15” flashlight. Double and triple-needle construction is utilized throughout, plus 48 bartacks in high-stress areas add to the tremendous strength of the tactical pants. The double reinforced seat and knees provide enhanced abrasion protection, and interior knee slots are ready to accept 6mm neoprene kneepads. At the ankle hemline, built-in blousing strap openings can accommodate 500 cord. On the 5.11 Tactical Pants, we use only genuine, locking-flange YKK zippers and quality PRYM snaps, both of which are top-of-the-line in the industry. Additional quality hardware is found in the front, where a convenient D-ring holds your keys, or ID. The legendary fit of the 5.11 Tactical Pant is a closely-guarded secret based on a tried-and-true formula created 30 years ago from its mountaineering roots. The authentic 5.11 Tactical Pants is the only pant on the market with a 30-year history of delivering quality, functionality, comfort and value. It has consistently stood the test of time worldwide. Accept no imitations or look-alikes; the authentic 5.11 Tactical Pants are the genuine article.

5.0 out of 5 stars durable, comfortable, useful, October 28, 2007
By R. P. (Phoenix, AZ) – See all my reviews
I brought 5 pairs of these to Iraq where I work as a contractor. They are comfortable and stand up to the KBR laundry well. They have a cell phone/radio/flashlight pocket, and pockets on the legs. The leg pockets are good for taking food out of the DFAC. There’s a metal ring for your keys or ID badge. There’s a strap on the hip where you can hang your kevlar if you need to. The back pockets seal with velcro so nothing will fall out. These are really good pants for hostile environments. Get the khaki color because it hides the dust well. The 5.11 polos are good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I live in these things., January 15, 2012

This review is from: 5.11 Tactical #74251 Men’s Cotton Pant (Sports Apparel)
I started wearing 5.11 stuff in Afghanistan as they made the only cargo pants available to me. At first I balked at the price for a pair of pants, but since I didn’t have any other options I bought a pair. Well, long story short, it’s several years later and with 1 exception, I haven’t bought another type of cargos since then. More on the exception later.

Why I go out of my way to buy these things:

1.) Build Quality: Just like other 5.11 products I’ve bought, the build quality is superior. I’m sure you can read all the details about how they make these pants, but the end effect is this: cargo pants that are about as durable as jeans or more-so. I have gotten a year of hard wear out of one pair of these pants.

2.) Design: With most 5.11 products I continue to find I have overlooked useful features and then discover them long after purchase. From the roomy, slanted back pockets, to the reinforced knife-clip pocket seam, to the D-ring – I really do… Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pants, but be aware of some differences between variants., October 2, 2013

I love these pants. But one thing I think the sellers need to do is make it clear which of the configurations the customer is looking at. This particular model here has the least number of pockets. It’s basically cargo pants with one extra little pocket on the left with a Velcro flap. I much prefer the model that has an eighth pocket (model 74273) – a small pocket on the right side under the belt and keying, which I use for keys, pens and loose coins. Without it, I have to dig to the bottom of the big side slash pocket for these little things. IMO its much more convenient to have this eighth pocket. And then there is a variant with two zip up pockets on each side, each having two sub pockets (model 74290). Also the lower cargo pockets are zippered to, and each has two sub pockets. This variant was my favorite, since it in effect has fourteen pockets in all. But as I note in my update, I have been finding my hand sometimes gets cut on the zipper when I dig into the pocket… Read more
